About the Opportunity
NWAC has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our executive team at our Gatineau, QC office.
The COO will be a key member of our senior management team, under the direction of the CEO. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing NWAC's operations to ensure the efficiency, stability, and functionality of the day-to-day business of our rapidly-expanding organization. With a new building and facility, it is crucial that operations are managed effectively.
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing NWAC’ facilities, including maintenance of our 20,000 square ft office complex with café and commercial space
- Responsible over all IT for the organization
- Collaborating with the CEO in setting organizational vision and strategy, and translating it into actionable goals for performance and growth
- Building a highly-inclusive culture that ensures team members thrive, and our organizational outcomes are met
- Ensuring effective recruiting, onboarding, development, performance management, and retention
- Leading a diverse team to maximum performance, morale, and dedication
- Ensuring adherence to organizational and regulatory compliance, making adjustments as needed
- Designing and implementing operational and business strategies, policies, and procedures
- Delegating tasks to the Director of Operations to handle day to day operational demands (Policy, Corporate, Marketing Finance, etc)
- Evaluating organizational performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
- Briefing the CEO and writing reports concerning important matters
- Assisting the CEO with fundraising and revenue generation ventures and programs
- Participating in expansion activities (investments, program development, etc)
- Managing relationships with partners and vendors
- Developing promotions and sales strategies for all revenue streams
About You
To qualify for this position, you must have a Degree in Business Administration or a related field. You will also join us with a minimum of 10 years of senior management/supervisory experience overseeing at least 10 employees, as well as at least 3 years of experience working in a Non-Profit Organization, preferably related to Indigenous causes. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preference will be given to First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and women and gender-diverse people of Indigenous ancestry, please self-identify.
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Experience in ensuring the delivery of projects and programs
- Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
- A solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
- Ability to apply sound judgment, diagnose problems quickly, and have foresight into potential issues
- Strong negotiation skills, and working knowledge of finance and budgeting
- Significant understanding of Indigenous Peoples, cultures, histories, and traditions in Canada and internationally
- Knowledge of contemporary concerns and issues related to doing Indigenous business in Canada
- Understanding of Indigenous issues and norms relevant to promotion and protection of Indigenous women’s rights
- Some knowledge of key issues impacting Indigenous women and girls in Canada and internationally
- Some understanding of social policy (including violence prevention and impacts, health, housing, etc)
- Fundraising experience (asset)
- International business experience (asset)
- Bilingual in English & French (asset)
As a senior leader, you have outstanding communication skills and the ability to create and nurture relationships with diverse individuals at all levels, inside and outside the organization. You are able to oversee multiple projects at once and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines.
